Feltham College student’s love of the Languages for All programme

·

Sarah is a Year 12 student at Feltham College. She shared her experiences of being one of the first students at our Sixth Form to benefit from studying French and Spanish through the ‘Languages for All’ programme.

Hello! My name is Sarah and I am a Year 12 student at Feltham College.

I study Politics, Economics, History and French A- levels. The ‘Languages for All’ programme was created with one of Feltham College’s partners, the Reach Foundation. Its key aim is to bring teachers and students from different schools together to ensure that all those who wish to study a language A-level in Hounslow can do so.

I love studying French because it is such an interesting language, with an incredibly rich history and culture.  I would also like to use my French A level for my future career in diplomacy.

What is the ‘Languages for All’ programme?

The ‘Languages for All’ programme and the trips and opportunities it gives us are fantastic. It allows us to view and understand different cultures, which is crucial in everyday life. The programme also gives us the chance to network with peers from other schools, providing me with a wider social circle and more career opportunities. We visited Google’s offices with the entire ‘Languages for All’ cohort in the spring term: it was an amazing day!

Trip to Royal Holloway University

We also recently went to Royal Holloway University and attended workshops on identity and leadership in Modern Foreign Languages. We were also able to speak with current Royal Holloway Students about their language study and explore the campus. From that, we created a clear plan to lead an initiative within Reach Academy to inspire younger language learners.

I would recommend anyone who is considering studying a language in Sixth Form to just go for it.

The ‘Languages for All’ programme really does support me in understanding another culture. Hopefully it will help me secure my dream career and, meanwhile, the teaching, socialising and trips are great fun as well as incredibly useful!
