Raniya’s Day

I live in Feltham and catch the H26 to college in the morning – I meet up with my friends, usually outside the Feltham Assembly Hall and we all catch the 90 for the final bit of the journey into Sixth form together. I spent time at two different secondary schools in Feltham and I knew in year 11 that I definitely wanted to study at Feltham College – didn’t apply anywhere else. I think it’s because it has a very clear vision for it’s students and high expectations of what is possible. If I was to describe how I feel when I’m at college I would say ‘comfortable’ and ‘safe’.

I really do enjoy all of my lessons. We have independent study sessions throughout the day and there are always teachers on hand to support us. I usually consolidate the learning of my previous lesson in IS as well as making sure I get my homework done. The best part of the day for me is 4.30pm – 5.00pm. We officially finish college at 3.20pm but most days I stay in the independent study space to make sure that all my notes from that day’s learning are in order and to recap on the topics that I have found tough. At 4.30pm I begin to wind down and often chat with teachers and other pupils about anything from future choices, current affairs and politics. I’m doing my EPQ on how America as a global super power could impact our lives!

What’s your favourite subject?

Maths – I absolutely love the creative challenge of problem solving but also the fact there is no subjectivity and always a right answer.

What do you do alongside your academic subjects?

I enjoy badminton and and dance and we do both of these during our PE slot. I am also a Sergeant at the Air Cadets and am currently working towards doing a solo flight in a glider! At College I have a employer mentor from the finance firm Turner and Townsend and I have also been supported into an internship at Citibank , which I am super excited about – I’ll be working in the Risk Management Team at Canary Wharf during the Summer.

If you could only keep one App on your phone which one would it be?

Tik Tok – I find it provides me with great summaries of the days top stories and I can then go on to research the news I’m most interested in on the official news sites.

Who do you most admire?

My Dad – his strong, funny character and that fact that he taught me the art of courage and kindness.
